An exhibition-labyrinth “Architectural History of Mariupol: From the Past to the Future” opens at National University of Lviv

On May 6, 2025, the exhibition “Architectural History of Mariupol: From the Past to the Future” was opened in the lobby of the University's main building. The exhibition is part of the Labyrinths of Unbreakable Cities project, which was first opened in Lviv in September 2023. The organizers of the exhibition at Lviv University are Mariupol Reborn, the City of Mary team, and the University Students' Trade Union.
During the opening of the exhibition, journalist, ambassador of Mariupol, coordinator of cultural projects in the City of Mary team Alevtina Shvetsova addressed the audience:
The Mariupol garrison held the defense of Mariupol for 86 days so that the whole of Ukraine could stand. Thank you for hosting the exhibition “Architectural History of Mariupol” and giving the floor to the Mariupol community
The visual component of the exhibition is intended to create a space of reflection. The exposition is structured as an artistic labyrinth accompanied by information about the architecture of Mariupol. This allows visitors to explore the consequences of the military impact on the urban landscape of the City of Mary, analyze the specifics of the destruction of cultural heritage, and work out variations of the concept of city recovery.
“Architectural History of Mariupol: From the Past to the Future” is a major project to revive Mariupol. According to the organizers, this project is about rebooting the city according to the best international practices and the latest technologies:
Mariupol will become a city of the future and new opportunities that will be able to meet the challenges of our time. Mariupol will regain its life and become a symbol of a newly rebuilt Ukraine. We are developing a strategy for the revival of Ukrainian Mariupol - Mariupol Reborn - even before the de-occupation to start rebuilding and returning life to the city as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The exhibition is part of the Labyrinths of Unbreakable Cities project, which was first opened in Lviv in September 2023. The exhibition history was shown in Kyiv and Zhytomyr, and also went international and was presented in Poland. The project's work may result in new initiatives to develop a concept for the rebuilding, restoration, and revitalization of urban spaces and in-depth research on the heritage of Ukrainian cities.
The Mariupol Reborn project is being implemented by the Mariupol City Council with the investment support of Rinat Akhmetov's SCM.
